Seasonal influenza would be higher this season

Infectious disease flu or influenza is now making news. It is now said that in India in this year 2018 there would be high incidence of seasonal influenza. This flu or influenza would be based on outbreak trends in winter season in the southern hemisphere. This has been confirmed now by the flu trackers.

Some of the symptoms of this seasonal influenza are the presence of fever, running nose plus sore throat, fatigue, body pains etc.

It is shocking to note that in India till 25th February 2018 a total of 1353 influenza cases were reported and as many as 133 people lost their precious lives due to this issue.

In the state of Tamil Nadu as many as 40 influenza cases were recorded and one person lost life and this recording was up to 25th of February 2018. This was confirmed by the reports released by Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme belonging to NCDC.

It must not be forgotten that in the state of TN between the months of August and October in 2017 there was spurt in the cases of deaths due to this flu.

Strengthening of the surveillance programmes coupled with vaccination and medication availability is the need of the hour as incidences of seasonal influenza is rising. One important piece of information is seasonal influenza based respiratory diseases are estimated to kill up to 6.46 lakh people and that is really shocking and sad.

Seasonal Influenza’s major complication ‘ARDS or Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome’ would lead to reduction in the supply of oxygen to lungs and blood and would result in deaths.
