It is known that pollution causes huge issues for the public and pollution from the vehicles are on the rise now. So it is necessary for the vehicles to get a pollution clearance certificate once in every six months.
The shocking piece of news that has emerged now is 96% vehicles in the state of Tamil Nadu do not strictly follow the process of getting a pollution clearance certificate. This was confirmed by state transport department data that was released in the month of May in the year 2017.
In Tamil Nadu state 3.4 crore vehicles on the road did not get the pollution clearance certificate and this was according to the data of 2015-16.
A valid Pollution Under Control Certificate or PUCC must be obtained by all the vehicles in one year after registration and this rule is compulsory under Tamil Nadu Motor Vehicle rules.
It is worthy to mention that emission tests for the vehicles are done in many centres and certificates are issued. It is said that owners of their vehicles must renew their PUCC after the completion of six months of validity of these certificates and this renewal must be done along with their emission tests.
These above mentioned certificates are obtained by only 12 lakh vehicles every year on an average whereas the rest don’t obtain. According to the experts it is now clear that pollution from the vehicles causes many problems to the environment plus it also causes the government to lose out on the revenue. Depending on the vehicle an amount of Rs 400 to Rs 2000 could be collected as penalty or fine from the people who violate the rules.
In the 32 districts in TN there are just 280 authorised centres that tests vehicles for pollution and these centres give clearance certificates. It is impossible to test as many as 350 vehicles everyday at the centres and this was confirmed by an expert.
