Chennai rains likely today, to decrease thereafter

Most awaited Chennai rains made a comeback during the past day. Though the intensity of showers was very light, it brought a smile on the face of Chennaites. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Minambakkam observatory of Chennai recorded rain to the tune of 4 mm. During the same time frame, the Nungambakkam observatory witnessed 3 mm of rain.

These rains can be attributed to the combined weather phenomena near the region. The first weather system was an anti-cyclonic feature prevailing over Southwest Bay of Bengal which brought moisture over Tamil Nadu and adjoining states. Another was the trough or wind discontinuity which was extending from South Tamil Nadu up to South Coastal Odisha across the state and Andhra Pradesh.

As per weathermen, this weather system is likely to move further towards the east. Hence, Chennai may encounter some more rains during the next 24 hours. The city may witness few light spells with isolated moderate rain for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the rainfall activity would decrease gradually as the system would move away from the city.

In fact, the sky conditions will also be cloudy to overcast along with southeasterly-easterly winds that will blow across the region. These moderate winds would, in turn, keep the day comfortable. However, slight humidity will prevail. The weather during the evening will be pleasant and breezy.

Moreover, the day temperatures are expected to reduce today. The maximums would settle between 30°C and 33°C, meanwhile, the minimums are likely to range from 23°C to 24°C.
