The state governments procure the number plates for all 4-wheelers including cars from authorized agencies. The numbers are given by the Regional Transport Offices.
In this situation, there has been a recent major decision taken by the central government.
The central minister, Nitin Gadkari, explained in this regard:
‘The cars fitted with authorized number plates will soon be available for sales. The price of the number plate will be added to the car/the other 4-wheeler prices. The companies which manufacture the 4-wheelers will fit the number plate as well. The task of inscribing the number will be done by machines later.
The adaptation of the latest technology in fixing the number plate at the manufacturing end itself will save time, travel, and expenses for the buyers. Further, there will be uniformity covering the number plates of all 4-wheelers.
Presently, the number plates procured by the state governments cost from Rs. 800 to Rs. 40000.
Priority must be given to the safety of the vehicle. Whether is an expensive or low-priced vehicle, no compromises must be made on the safety aspects of the vehicle. The safety regulations apply strictly to all kinds of vehicles.
There is no compromise either on the aspect of pollution emitted by the vehicles. A number of initiatives have been taken up in this regard.
The cars manufactured from July next year will have features reminding the driver the necessity of wearing the seat belts and airbags. It will also be mandatory to install the device which will warn when the driving speed exceeds 80 km per hour.
