The Chief Secretaries of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh were part of a high level meeting along with other top officials today.
Ms. Sheela Balakrishnan and Ms. Minnie Matthew participated in a get-together in which it was decided a committee consisting chief engineers from both states and Chief Engineer RPT of Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) would be formed to monitor water supply as part of the Krishna Water Supply Agreement which was signed by the two states.
The meeting is a result of Tamil Nadu’s claim that Andhra Pradesh has taken unapproved drawing of water and not released enough.
An official press release said, ‘Due to unapproved drawing of water inside Andhra Pradesh border, less quantity of water reaches Tamil Nadu. Therefore, (Andhra Pradesh) has to check this to ensure at least 350 cusecs is realised at the Tamil Nadu border.’
