BJP President Mr. Nitin Gadkari had announced that he will compete in the coming presidential elections of the party once again. However, he faces severe opposition as many companies he has invested in have reported abuse.

He has received summons to cooperate in investigations following Income Tax investigations into the reports. He has opposition from the BJP in the form of senior functionary Mr. Yashwant Sinha and son of Mr. Ram Jethmalani, Mr. Mahesh Jethmalani. Mr. Gadkari has been forced to opt out of the competition in the wake of the reports inspite of support from the RSS and Mr. L.K. Advani.
“Since the accusations will affect the party, I have decided to withdraw my candidature for the post of President. I have done nothing wrong intentionally. I have intimated my friends and seniors of my decisions”, said Mr. Gadkari.

In light of this, it has been decided that Mr. Rajnath Singh will take his place. Mr. Singh has met RSS leaders and also got support from Mr. Advani. This decision was taken in Mr. Arun Jaitley’s house yesterday. Mr. Advani could not be present as he was in Mumbai.
Senior party leaders Sushma Swaraj, Venkaiah Naidu and other were part of this unanimous decision. Mr. Singh has also met Mr. Gadkari in this regard. Mr. Singh was party President from 2005 till 2009.
