The use of second-hand oil is a major practice in restaurants irrespective of the customer base. It has many health related side effects including cancer.

The Food Safety Commiserate that announced that it will check the use of second hand oil from March and suggest alternate ways to use already used oil. Mr. Kumar Jayant, Food Safety Commissioner said, ‘It is a matter of serious concern because it is a public health issue.

Eating food cooked with second-hand oil can cause various problems and lead to cancer. We want to ensure that food fried in reused oil does not find its way to a customer`s plate at any eatery. Under the Food Safety Act, it is illegal to sell products fried in reused oil. If people cannot afford to use fresh oil, they will not be allowed to sell food.’
