Two Underground stretches of Chennai Metro rail are to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Edappadi K.Palaniswami along with the Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri. The opening ceremony will be conducted on Friday, 25th of May 2018 at 12.30 P.M.
The function will be held at Egmore metro station and reports confirmed that other state ministers will be present for the inauguration event.
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) officially announced last month about the final phase operations of the two underground stations. Nehru Park to Chennai Central (Green Line) and Little Mount to AG DMS (Blue Line) are the two underground stretches of the Chennai Metro Rail to be inaugurated tomorrow and opened for public use. The stations are planned for a decoration with lights.
One of the stretch has three stations in the entire line, Nehru Park, Egmore and Chennai Central running for 2.7 Km. The other stretch has four stations at Saidapet, Nandanam, Teynampet and AG-DMS in a stretch of 4.5 Km.
More than 34,000 Commuters travel through Metro rails on daily basis. CMRL expects the number to raise up to one lakh after the commencement of the operations from Chennai Central. The transportations between Chennai Central and Airport will be operated for every five minutes in the peak hours.
The Central Metro Stretch will provide easy options for commuters from Egmore travelling to various locations of Tamil Nadu. The Egmore bus terminus operates inter-state communication and so the metro may provide a travel hub for Commuters to easily plan their long trip.
Public opinion clearly indicates the expectation of a reduced crowd levels in the suburban trains, due to the commencement of new Mero stretches.
Spread over 8000 Square Meters the Egmore Metro station has four entry and exit points. One each at Southern Railway Headquarters and Poonamalle High Road and two other points near the Egmore Suburban Railway station.
The total distance between the Egmore Metro Station and the Suburban railway station is very short and commuters can easily board the trains of both the stations at ease.
Official reports of the CMRL said that the distance between AG-DMS to Airport is 15 km and would be covered by the Metro train in approximately 35 minutes. Also the Central to Airport distance would be covered by Metro Train in 45 minutes.
