The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K. Palaniswami, while addressing the inauguration of the Metro underground services in 2 corridors in the Chennai Metro City, informed that the Chennai Metro Rail service has the longest underground tunnels tracks in the entire country.
In order to ease the travel and traffic of the Chennai Metro City residents, new sections of the Metro rail Services are being inaugurated from today (Friday, 25th May).
The special inaugural function was organized today headed by the Tamil Nadu State Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami at the Egmore Metro Rail Station. The green corridor route between Nehru Park and Chennai Central and the blue corridor route of the Metro rail between Little Mount – AG–DMS.
The Chief Minister E. Palanisamy also inaugurated the Green corridor Metro Railway Stations of Egmore and Central in the green corridor and the Metro station of the Blue corridor Saidapet, Nadanam, Teynampet, and AG-DMS.
The deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, Central Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri and Pon. Radhakrishnan also participated in the inaugural event lighting the lamps.
Addressing the inaugural function, the Chief Minister informed that the Metro services between Koyambedu and Alandur were inaugurated in 2016. By 2020, the entire extended project of Chennai Metro Rail would be completed.
Arrangements have been made to operate mini-buses from the Metro railway stations. So far, 1.64 Crores persons have travelled in the Chennai Metro Rail.
The Chennai Metro Rail Service marks the latest technical growth of the transport system. The longest underground Metro stretch is located now in Chennai. The Chief Minister added that with this inauguration, the heavy traffic congestion would ease out to a great extent and also reduce the pollution level in the air.
