The southwest monsoon rainy season has commenced in the southern part of Tamil Nadu. The intensity of rain which had persisted since last few days has somewhat reduced since day-before-yesterday.

In the Chennai Metro City, the temperature did not touch 100 Degrees even during the peak of the summer (Agni Nakshatram or Kathiri Veyil). However, after the conclusion of this peak summer, it was quite hot in Chennai. The heat intensity was so strong that even the electric fans generated only hot air.

The director of the Chennai Meteorological Centre, S. Balachandran informed that the depression zone that had formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal has drifted towards Myanmar. Due to this, the humidity of the air is rather low.

Because of this, the temperature in the northern Tamil Nadu districts including Chennai will be higher by 1 Degree to 3 degrees Celsius. This higher heat intensity will persist for the next 3 days.

The low-pressure zone which formed over the Arabian Sea weakened and vanished. The southwest monsoon rainy seasonal winds have started blowing in the districts of Coimbatore, Dindigul, and Tuticorin.

There are prospected of rin in a few places today (Thursday, 31st May) in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu. It may rain in a few places in the northern districts as well.
