The Chennai Meteorological Centre has informed that the high-intensity heat will persist till tomorrow (Saturday, 2nd June).

Though the severity of the summer heat has come down in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu, it is still severe in the central interior districts and north and northeast districts.

A low-pressure zone formed over the Bay of Bengal a week ago. This drifted gradually and moved towards the northeast districts. As the humidity over the Bay of Bengal had been absorbed, the blowing of humid air came down increasing the heat intensity on the land. Thus, it has been a scorching heat over the last 3 days in Chennai. As the temperature has shot up to 42 Degrees Celsius and over, the public has been out to great hardship not being able to venture out. The intensity of the scorching heat did not come down yesterday also. A temperature of 38 Degrees Celsius has been recorded in Chennai Nungambakkam and a temperature of 40 Degrees Celsus has been recorded in Chennai Meenambakkam.

In this situation, the Chennai Meteorological Centre has now announced that the intensity of the heat will persist for 2 days- till tomorrow (2nd June). It has been estimated that the intensity of heat will be more in the North and the Northeast districts.

The Centre has also estimated that there are prospects of sudden rains with thunder in the northern coastal area of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
