Recently the residents of Chennai woke up to the shocking news of few chain snatching and mobile snatching incidents. The news that has emerged now is Chennai city police commissioner Mr. Viswanathan, has given instructions to the policemen to intensify the night patrolling. On Tuesday, 12th of June 2018, the police commissioner attracted the attention when he gave instructions regarding night patrolling and he hinted that as many as 2 teams would be formed under the ‘Crime Prevention Team’.
According to the order, it is now brought out that the two above said teams would be making their presence felt in the Chennai city from 10 pm to 4 am and then from 4 am to 8 am. The teams would be operating in 2 shifts. Deputy Commissioner would be the head of each team and there would be 14 members in each team. The team would have inspector, sub-inspector, head-constables, constables etc doing their work for the sake of people. Then there would also be regular night rounds every day. Till 30th of June 2018, assistant commissioner from special units would be deployed in the new teams. Deputy Commissioner, Armed Reserve would be the in-charge for Armed Reserve police force that would also be playing their role.
It must not be forgotten that on Sunday as many as 14 people were robbed of their mobile phones, cash, gold etc by some motorbike gangs in Chennai city and these incidents took place in just 4 hours of time. This has created huge fear on the people now. Hence this step is now being taken by the police personnel to put an end to these crimes. Special vehicles would be given to the teams for the purpose of patrolling.
According to a senior police officer, the two teams would be conducting vehicle checks plus the teams would be nabbing criminals and stop bike racing etc. The suspicious persons would be kept under the custody of the police. Not only main roads but also interior roads would be checked by these teams. As many as 152 sensitive points in the city of Chennai have been identified by the police and there would be more police personnel in these points.
In the storming operations conducted by the police personnel over the last 2 days, as many as 3469 persons including 1125 history- sheeters have been detained. On Monday night, the police personnel have seized as many as 69 motorbikes in the Chennai city.
