The MLA of the Chennai Thousand Lights Constituency, K. K. Selvam of DMK, has informed that the administration of the Southern Railway has agreed to install the lift facility at either side of the Nungambakkam Railway Station.
The MLA explained that due to the absence of the lift facility, the senior citizens, patients with illnesses, and the differently- abled are all put to huge hardships. So, I had submitted a written demand that in order to easily approach the ticket counter at the Nungambakkam Railway Station, lift facility must be provided on either side of the station.
Subsequently, in a letter dated 14th June, the Southern Railway Chief Engineer, A. K. Sinha wrote to him (the MLA) that approval has been given to install the lift facility on either side of the Chennai Nungambakkam Railway Station.
Presently, the public face extreme hardships while taking the pavement adjacent to the Loyola College while coming out of the Nungambakkam Railway station to cross the road. This also causes heavy traffic congestion.
In order to overcome this problem, there has been a demand to construct an overbridge to cross the road from the Loyola College Compound wall to the opposite side.
The Loyola College administration has given the requisite land to construct this overbridge. Subsequently, the activities to construct an overbridge have commenced on 21st June.
