North Chennai post office will offer Passport services

After several development plans the Regional Passport Office (RPO) will set up a base for the service of passport seva Kendra in the post office of north Chennai locality. The finalized post office will operate as Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) for the services of passport applications and verifications.

RPO Chennai is in the final stages of identifying a post office in the northern part of Chennai as the locality do not have any kind of facility related to passport applications. R Anand, post master general of Chennai city region reported the request of RPO to establish a passport service center in one of the post offices of the locality. RPO is also looking for setting up the POPSK centers in Arakkonam, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur localities apart from North Chennai.

Installing passport centers in the above mentioned areas were on the talks but the process didn’t take off discontinued in 2011. Now the selected post offices are being analyzed for the feasibility and building arrangements for finalizing the center for passport verification.

At present there are three Passport Seva Kendras (PSK) of Regional Passport Office (RPO) Chennai in Aminjikarai, Saligramam and Tambaram. All the areas comes under the southern and middle regions of the city resulting in RPO jotting down the final post office for north Chennai.
