The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, E. Palanisamy. launched the services of 515 new buses as the 1st Phase yesterday (Tuesday, 3rd July). There are more features and facilities in the new buses. In fact, they have all the facilities and features to compete with the private omnibuses.
The sleeping facility, toilet facility, CCTV camera, deluxe luxury seats, and other features are available. It is also a driver-friendly bus simplifying his job.
The new buses have been distributed among the 8 transport corporation. Out of this, in the 1st Phase, 40 buses have been given to the State Government Express Transport Corporation. Out of this, 18 buses started operating yesterday (3rd July).
The luxury buses with sleeper berths are operated from Chennai to 6 cities. 3 categories of charges have been fixed for these buses.
The fare for A/C buses with sleeper buses is Rs. 2 per km. The fare for the non-A/C buses with sleeper berths is Rs. 1.55 per km. The fare for the ultra-deluxe A/c with seats-only buses is Rs. 1.30 per km. The fare for the non-A/C ultra deluxe buses with seats only is fixed at Rs. 1 per km.

Chennai Salem as above Rs. 725.
Chennai - Bodinayakanpatti as above Rs. 1110.
Chennai Erode as above Rs. 905
Chennai Karur as above Rs. 820.
A/C sleeper- berth facility buses are being operated from Chennai to 6 cities.
Chennai Madurai non- A.c with sleeper berth Rs. 725.
Chennai Dindigul ultra deluxe bus with toilet facility Rs. 500.
A higher official from SETC explained that 100 new buses have been allotted for the Express Transport Corporation. Out of this, 40 buses have A/C and sleeper facilities. Out of the 50 ultra deluxe buses allotted, 10 buses have toilet facility. In the 1st Phase, 40 buses have been given out of the 100.
The balance buses will be given before the end of August. When extra facilities and comforts are provided, more passengers can be expected to travel. So, with the introduction of these luxury buses, it is expected that there will be a spurt in the number of passengers.
