  • Keep the silver vessels or jewellery items in a vessel filled with soured milk or buttermilk for half-n-hour and then wash. They will regain the shine as new.

  • After washing the white-coloured washbasins, white-tiled bathrooms or sinks, wash it again with water added with a few drops of ultramarine blue. They will all become pure glistening white.

  • When performing Homams in the house, keep a table-fan facing outside near the window – this way, the smoke will not come inside.

  • Spraying a small quantity of salt over butter will keep it ok for longer periods.

  • Especially during the summer season, swarms of flies (‘Ee’ in Tamil) can be seen all over. While washing the floors of the house, mix some salt with water used for washing and then clean. Once dry, flies won’t enter.

  • If the vegetables or fruits are kept in cold water mixed with a few drops of vinegar, the germs and bacteria will die.

  •  To remove the bad smell on the knives after cutting onion or garlic, rub a pinch of salt on the surface of the knife and then wash with cold water.

  • In order to avoid milk getting stuck in the bottom of the vessel, first (before adding milk) wash that vessel with cold water thoroughly

  • Keep a bunch of fenugreek leaves in the container with wheat – insects won’t enter.

  • Before going to sleep, spray some bleaching powder in the bathroom and the toilet and leave it. This will remove the cockroach complaint.

  • Adding a bit of butter to the cut onion will keep it fresher for a longer time.

  • Keeping the broken half of the coconut either under water or rubbing the interior with a pinch of salt will prevent t from rotting.

  • Keeping the jewellery pieces covered in cotton will retain their fresh luster.

  • Use curtains/screen in dark green or dark blue colour – the intensity of heat won’t enter the interior,

  • It is wiser to save more fuel while cooking – keep the cooking vessel covered except while cooking greens.

  • Mix some chalk powder and washing soda in warm water and rub this mixture on the mosaic floors before washing again with water –this will keep the mosaic shining and dirt-free.

  • In order to clean the sink or the washbasin for cleaning cooking utensils, use old newspaper sheets and rub strongly  - it will remove the dirt and then it can be washed with water.

  • Heat the knife under direct fire for a small time and then use it for cutting bread – you will find it easy as per your desire and shape.

  • In case the foul smell of fish lingers in the vessel, mix the shikakai powder and tamarind and wash the vessel. The foul smell will be gone.

  • In case lemon gets dry, keep it in boiling water for 5 minutes and then extract the juice in more quantity.
