For illegal water tapping using electric motors, water supply cut in 67 houses in Chennai

Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board disconnecting the water supply to as many as 67 houses in the Chennai city has been the topic for discussion for many now. These 67 houses in Chennai have used half break horse power motor and that was the reason for metro water supply being cut now. For the next 3 months, the water supply would not be restored.

Out of these above mentioned 67 houses in Chennai, 9 houses are from Thiruvottriyur, one house from Royapuram, 16 houses from Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, 8 houses from Ambattur, 10 houses each from Anna Nagar and Teynampet, 5 houses from Kodambakkam and 8 houses from Adyar. It is revealed that tapping of water using electric motor from the main water pipelines is illegal as per Metro Water regulations. People who use these methods to get more water are liable for disconnection of metro water services. Heavy penalty amount must be paid by these violators for reconnection.

An officer belonging to metro water department spoke about how an extra amount of Rs 20,000 would have to be paid by these violators to get metro water connection back. According to an area engineer, if two houses belonging to a particular street use illegal motor then the water supply would be stopped to other houses also. The official highlighted about the availability of motors these days and how people in Choolaimedu used submersible pumps also to get more water.
