Commuters would not get any time advantage by taking a fast local train on the Chennai Beach-Tambaram-Chengalpet section and are upset now. The reason is the Chennai division of southern railway has decided to run all fast locals on the slow line. The trains would now stop at all the stations. On Tuesday, 24th July 2018 an order was issued by senior divisional operations manager, Mr. T.P. Singh regarding this.

It is known that there are as many as 4 tracks between Beach and Tambaram. For the suburban trains 2 tracks are used and the other 2 tracks are used for freight, express and fast suburban trains etc. Commuters prefer fast local trains that stop at Egmore, Mambalam, Guindy, Chromepet, Tambaram etc.

On Tuesday, there was an accident at the St. Thomas Mount railway station and few youngsters lost their precious lives. Hence the decision was taken by the railways department.

This decision was criticised by the commuters now as a knee jerk reaction. A frequent commuter expressed his views and spoke about why the railways stopped running train services due to the accident that took place couple of days back. He also spoke about the underutilization of 2 extra tracks and how it was total waste of money.

Railways are inspecting the infrastructure of all fast line platforms at all the stations. This was confirmed by the Chennai divisional railway manager Mr. Naveen Gulati. He later highlighted that many people travel by footboard with bags behind them and they get hit by the poles or other structures that are within the safety parameters. This order would be in force till these structures are reviewed.
