The high-level police officials have strictly warned the Tamil Nadu Police staff that they must wear helmets while driving - any violation will be immediately dealt with stringent departmental action.

In order to reduce the increasing trend of road accidents in the state of Tamil Nadu, wearing helmets and seat-belts has been made mandatory for the 2-wheeler and the 4-wheeler drivers from 1st July 2015.

The police have been conducting regular surprise checks in this regard and impose immediate punishment for those are not wearing helmets/seat-belts with penalties and cancellation of the driving licence.

However, a large number of complaints have been made that the police department personnel themselves are not following this rule strictly and more police are driving without wearing helmets.

So, the higher officials have taken a decision to take departmental action on those who fail to follow this.

They explained that there is 1 Lakh personnel employed in the police department. Out of this, most employees do not follow the safety order to wear helmets/seat-belts. Henceforth, immediate stringent departmental action will be taken on those who violate this.

All police must undertake the promise at 7.00 AM daily that they are wearing the helmets/seat-belts. For those who failed to wear helmets, the vehicle keys will be confiscated and handed over to the police station. The punished police personnel must bring the helmet and then only they will be allowed to continue duty.
