In order to improve the safety and ensure accident free travel on the busy roads of the state, Tamil Nadu government introduced new wide angle mirrors in all the government buses to extend the visibility of the vehicles while travelling. Blind spots are the primary reasons for many accidents across the state and so the advanced wide angle mirrors will enable the drivers to have a full scale visibility for the upcoming vehicles leading to better judgement and speed control on the risky roads.
According to a recent order released by Transport Secretary PWC Davidar the State Transport Corporations will start to work on providing additional safety features for the state owned buses with wide angle mirror, close proximity mirror and blind spot mirror installations. Two wheelers, Cars and other commercial vehicles can be easily viewed with the help of these optic installations on the buses preventing accidents caused mainly as the result of overtaking and speeding. A study shows 16,157 people died out of road accidents among which 1,247 persons lost their lives resulting from the government buses hit in the year 2017. Government bus accidents account for seven to eight percentage of total accidental deaths in the state every year.

With a ten percent funds from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways the installation of safety mirrors in the government buses for ensuring more safety.
Apart from the safety feature installation in the government buses the corruption free transport department and replacing old buses with new ones are the best solutions for road safety. Authorizing the permit of old buses will always result in the failure of spare parts over the time resulting in deadly accidents plucking the lives of many innocents.
