After three years of the commencement of the Chennai metro rail service, CMRL (Chennai Metro Rail Limited) announced the introduction of shared car and share auto services for the commuters. With this new service commuters are provided with a last mile connectivity in and around 3 kms of the respective metro stations.
CMRL said that the services starts from Friday with the fixed rates of Rs 10 for share auto and Rs 15 for shared car services. Passengers can travel only 3 km radius with the metro station as the center point in all possible directions.
Koyambedu, Alandur, Vadapazhani and Anna nagar east metro station will have the shared car services. AG-DMS, Guindy, Alandur, St.Thomas Mount, Ekkaktuthangal and Ashok Nagar will be provided with fixed price share auto services. CMRL outsourced the shared vehicles services to a company and the official map depicting the three kilometer radius will be posted at the metro stations mentioned above for the convenience of the commuters.
As a starting phase the share cars and autos will run for every half an hour from the stations and the frequency of the vehicles will be increased gradually said an official of CMRL. He also added that CMRL will observe the entire mechanism of the new shared car and auto services to find the efficiency in providing it to the metro stations. It will surely ease out the last minute travel around the locality of each metro stations. After the initial phase analysis CMRL will plan the frequency of the cars and auto for every five to ten minutes keeping the peak time crowd into the account.
