Prisoners protest, climb trees

There was high drama in Coimbatore’s Central Prison on Sunday when a group of prisoners climbed a tree and protested against policemen attacking a fellow prisoner.
According to reports, Santhosh, one of the prisoners, told prison officials that he wished to be taken to a hospital as he was not well. When his request was denied, four others climbed a tree to protest. After pacifying them, security guards managed to get them down. One of the four were attacked by a guard later, which led to 20 others climbing trees in protest. They also threatened to commit suicide.
They were pacified after talks with top police officials.
