The free insurance coverage extended to the train passengers is being withdrawn from 1st September. As one of the various measures taken to encourage cashless digital financial transactions, the train passengers were provided with free insurance coverage on behalf of IRCTC from 1st December 2017.
For the passengers who died during the train journey were given Rs. 10 Lakhs and those who get handicapped or physically disabled during the journey were given Rs, 7.5 Lakhs. For the train passengers who got wounded during the journey, Rs. 2 Lakhs was given. For the damaged goods of the passengers during the journey, Rs. 10000 was offered under this free insurance coverage.
In this scenario, this free insurance coverage being offered to train passengers is being withdrawn with effect from 1st September. Also, the officials informed that the charges for the option given while online booking is being done whether or not insurance cover is required have not yet been decided. An announcement is expected to be made shortly.
