From today, the next heavy rains (5th spell of the monsoon) starts in Kerala, Karnataka (Cauvery Catchment, Valparai, Nilgiris, Theni, Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli Ghat areas

Heavy rains is expected to happen all along the Western Ghat areas right from Maharashtra to Kanyakumari ghats for the next one week (upto 18th August). The low in Bay of Bengal is expected to move from North AP / Odisha coast to Gujarat via Telegana and Vidarbha to Gujarat. This activates the Arabian side monsoon winds.
The Cauvery Catchment (Kodagu, Chikmagalur and Hassan in Karnataka and the Wayanad in Kerala all will get good rains. And most importantly the ghats will be pounded rather than the coastal stations.
In Tamil Nadu, Valparai, Theni, Kanyakumari, Nilgiris and Nellai ghat areas will get heavy rains.
Avoid going to places such as Munnar, Kodagu in the coming days while Ooty and Kodaikanal will not get much affected. In Nilgiris, it is the Devala - Avalanche - Upper Bhavani belt which will get heavy rains.
More pain is on the way to Kerala, those who are in relief works in flood affected areas, please take care too.
Mettur Dam is going to continue to get huge inflows.
Bhavanisagar Dam will become full and overflow after long long time after this spell. So will the Periyar and Papanasam dams.
