The toll rates of 10 plazas on National Highways will be revised and the new rates will be collected from September 1, 2018. The new rate fixation is calculated in the basis of Wholesale Price Index (WPI) June 1997 formation acting towards the end of preceding financial year.
Sources from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) mentioned the rate increase of the new revised toll price as 4% from the current value. Totally 43 toll roads are managed by NHAI in Tamil Nadu.
The new revised rates will be effective in the plazas of Vikravandi in Villupuram, Nallur (Chennai - Tada route), Moratandi near Puducherry, 4 plazas near Salem including those at Kottakoundampatti and Rasampalayam and 2 plazas in Karur.
The toll rates for the rest of the plazas will be devised within the month of April. Truck owners went indefinite strike earlier this year owing to high toll rates and waiting time. Lorry Owner Association and Truck Owner Association of the nation reported the inadequate facilities on road contrary to the high toll rate collection.
