Sometimes you might think how the red colour of the foods we consume could benefit us.  It is now said that red coloured foods are more concentrated in nutrients. The carbohydrates, proteins and fats are converted to usable energy for our body by the bright hue of the red coloured fruits and vegetables. These red coloured foods are rich in antioxidants like resveratrol, lycopene, anthocyanins, flavonoids etc.  The important point here is 95 % of adults do not consume red coloured and orange coloured vegetables.

Various red coloured fruits are:

Cranberries, pomegranates, cherries, blood oranges, watermelons, strawberries, red grapes, red apples, red pears, tomatoes and guavas

Various red coloured vegetables are:

Red bell peppers, red kidney beans, beet root, red radishes, red potatoes, red onions and rhubarb.

Red tomatoes:

Tomatoes are widely used in preparing many dishes. The presence of high levels of lycopene in the red coloured tomatoes does superbly in fighting against prostate cancer, oesophagus cancer and colon cancer. Cooked tomato products like soups, sauce are tremendous as they contain lycopene.

Strawberries:

It is known that strawberries are cultivated for its fruit and the fruit has got superb aroma plus juicy texture, red colour etc. These strawberries are rich in folate, potassium and vitamin C. This vitamin C is simply superb as it boosts the functioning of our immune system plus helps in lowering the blood cholesterol.

Cranberries:

They belong to genus Vaccinium and are group of evergreen dwarf shrubs. The colour of the cranberry fruit is green in the beginning and it turns red when it gets ripe. The antioxidant proanthocyanidin found in cranberries play a vital role in preventing UTI or urinary tract infection plus it also prevents stomach ulcer in us.

Cherries:

The nutritional content of the cherries is highlighted by the deep red colour. It must be noted that the dark red colour of the cherries is due to the presence of anthocyanins. Our body is protected from the damage caused by free radicals and from the environmental toxins that could increase our ageing and this is mainly due to the anthocyanins in these cherries.

Raspberries:           

The raspberry belongs to genus rubus and it is an edible fruit. The raspberries have high amounts of fibres in them and these fibres play a huge role in lowering the bad cholesterol in us. They also have niacin, zinc plus others like potassium, tannins. lignans etc.

Red bell pepper:

The red bell pepper is rich in vitamin A, C, E, B6 plus folates etc. For the healthy functioning of our immune system intake of red bell peppers are tremendous.

Red kidney beans:

Rich in fibre content and zinc, red kidney beans helps in good reproductive health and also in the healing of wounds in us. The presence of vitamin B in the red kidney beans boosts neurological f functions in us.

Watermelon:

Lycopene is present in huge amounts in water melon is known. This lycopene would reduce the risk of getting heart diseases, strokes by reducing LDL cholesterol in us. It also reduces macular degeneration and the risk of prostate cancer.

Beetroot:

It is important to mention that beetroot have fibre, potassium, vitamin C plus others like folates, nitrates etc. Lowering of BP and improvement in the blood flow are got by these nutrients.
