In Chennai many people use MTC buses as these buses are very convenient and easily accessible for them. It is now said that Metropolitan Transport Corporation or MTC buses plying towards Tambaram and Velachery from western suburbs are skipping CMBT, Koyambedu. This has lead to inconvenience for many commuters using MTC buses.

Route number 70 (Avadi to Vandalur via Tambaram), route number D70 (Ambattur to Velachery via Ashok Nagar), route number 113(RedHills to Guindy Industrial Estate) and route number 27T(Oragadam to T. Nagar)are the MTC buses that skip CMBT and create inconvenience to many commuters now.

There are many commuters who travel in the above mentioned bus route numbers and as a result of this MTC is operating more than 30 buses on each of these routes. The CMBT in Koyambedu is a switch over point for many commuters. There is a stop in front of election commissioner office located opposite to the CMBT. Now the MTC buses drop the commuters at this stop.

A commuter spoke about the absence of pedestrian crossing and the risk associated due to that. He also added that inspite of additional traffic police present during the peak hours, the passengers still find it difficult. President of TN Progressive Consumer Centre, Mr. Sadagopan, spoke about how it was a deficiency on the part of the MTC.

As per a senior official belonging to MTC it is clear that every time buses enter CMBT the traffic condition gets worsened. City traffic police was consulted and the alteration of the route was carried on so that the traffic is reduced. It is important to mention that the MTC buses enter CMBT during their return trip from Tambaram or Velachery.

The official finally explained that to transport the passengers to south Chennai, MTC buses like 570S, 111 are available in adequate numbers. Once when the highway department completes construction then the operation would start with the original route.
