The draft voters list was released in Tamil Nadu on 1st September. Extension time till September and October has been given to carry out the corrections including addition/deletion of names, and change of address, etc.
Special camps are being organised for tomorrow (Sunday, 9th September) and 23rd September, and on 7th and 14th October for the above activities.
These special camps are being organised in locations where the polling booths are located. In Chennai, special camps are being organised in 3754 polling booths. The public can visit from 8.30 AM to 5.30 PM to check and confirm whether their names are included in the Voters’ List.
The citizens who want to include their names and those who have completed 18 years of age recently need to fill up Form 6, fill up and submit. For removal of names Form 7 has to be filled up and submitted. For a change of address, Form 8 need to be filled up and given. In case, the change of address is in the same ward, Form 8A needs to be filled up and submitted.
Thus, the citizens can avail the special camps over the 4 days to visit the camp located nearest to their residences and do the needful for addition/deletion of names. Change of address, ec. On the other days, the citizens can visit the Corporation Zonal offices and fill out the forms and submit. Forms can be submitted online as well.
Applications online can be made through the ‘National Voters’ Portal’ or the website – http://www.elections.tn.gov.in/.
An election department official informed that in the special camps, the respective headmasters or assistant headmasters will function as the head official and there will be an assistant among the staff for each booth.
Over the correction activities as explained above during the 2 months of September and October, the applications received will be scrutinized, and corrections made, and the final voters’ list expected to be released by the end of the 1st week of January.
