The most important aspect of any construction project is to ensure that all the material procured for the construction are of top quality. If this is done and endured, it is almost half-the-job well done!’ However, as adulteration of items has become prevalent in all sectors, there are prospects of getting cheated on this front

Sand, cement, building bricks, Gravel, and rods are among the most important items in the construction sector. Only with these materials, the building takes shape. And the cement plays a crucial role in binding these products.

So, it is worthwhile how to ascertain the good quality of the cement.

There are several kinds of cement - 33 Grade, 43 Grade, and 53 Grade. Out of this, 53 Grade cement is being used for concreting works. 43 Grade cement is used for building bricks. 33 Grade cement is used for finishing or polishing. It is advisable to know more about this from the engineers.

Immediately on buying the cement, check and verify for the quality certificate of the brand and whether the name of the com[pany is printed proper and clear.

Next, check the date of manufacture. Note that the quality of the cement reduces even as it ages. So, ensure that the date of manufacture/production is not more than 2 months’ older. If it is 3 months’ old the cement quality would have reduced by 29%. If it is more than 6 months’ old, there are prospects of quality reducing by 40%.

Check whether the cement has a uniform colour. Generally, it should be grey.

Check whether there are any lumps in the cement bad/pack. The cement should be a uniform powder. If there are lumps, they will absorb moisture and reduce the quality of the cement.

Pick some quantity of the cement with the fingers. If it is not smooth and appears and feels sandy, it is an indication of adulteration.

Insert the hand inside the cement bag. In case a ‘cold’ feel is experience, it is a good quality cement.
