Online payment for LPG cylinders

In the Chennai Region alone, 3 Lakh consumers procure the LPG Cooking Gas Cylinders supplied by Indian Oil Corporations.

Under the Chennai region, covering Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Thiruvannamalai, and Vellore districts, 77000 LPG cooking gas cylinders are supplied every day. These are delivered house-to-house by the workers of IOC who deliver the cylinders and get the payments.

However, they earn an extra indirect income by collecting extra money as they deliver.  There is a spate of unending complaints received in this regard.

Now, Indian Oil Corporation has planned to introduce the system of E-Wallet to prevent the above complaints.

While the customer books for the new cylinder, he/she is notified to make payment online.

However, only very few agents are using this process of payment. All are not following. So, IOC is taking action to make this compulsory for all the agents.

In this regard, the agents shred: ‘Most customers do not prefer online payment.  They are apprehensive of maloperations and afraid more money may be taken on his. At the same time, these customers also do make the complaining that the delivery staff demands extra payment.

Further, the online payment, if made by the customer, do not realize quickly. If there are holidays in between, it may take up to 3 days to realize.

In our case, we need to pay immediately to procure the cylinders. We also need to appoint a separate person for the online payments. This may not be feasible.’

However. Indian Oil Corporation is going ahead with the plan for the online payment. Special training is being imparted to the agents and delivery staff for this purpose.
