The facility to pay the vehicle tax and other related payments online will be introduced from the next month (October).
RTOs (Road Transport Offices) undertake the responsibility for issuing vehicle registration number, the collection of taxes, and other related activities in Tamil Nadu.
However, with the system under the control of the state government, the central government had complained that there are various complaints and shortfalls.
Subsequently, several procedures were implemented in order that all the info with the states regarding this could be accessed by the central government as well.
As a continuation, a software called ‘Parivahan’ will be used for all procedures related to vehicles. A software called ‘Sarathy’ will be used for all procedures related to the driver of the vehicle.
In this situation, with all procedures/activities regarding licence being carried out on the internet, another software, known as Vahan-4 is being implemented in practice in all the RTOs.
This will be completed by end of September. From next month onwards, all payments related to vehicles, including the quarterly and half-yearly taxes can be paid online through the internet.
This would substantially reduce the time demanded from the vehicle owners including the waiting period and also prevent the malpractices of the middlemen or the brokers.
