Starting from next year the consumption of solar energy will be recorded with the installed meters of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. As per the drafting filed in Solar Policy 2018 the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency will develop the process of reading the amount of energy consumed in terms of units and power.
With the new policy all the service connection meters in Tamil Nadu will be configured in a way for bi-directional energy recording and display. It will be effective for all new connections and existing connections including the solar energy reading.
Solar energy generation capacity of 8884 MW of energy production has been planned by the state by the year 2022. This will hugely impact the saving of non-renewable sources of energy that are highly depleting in recent years. Further the major power disruption in rural parts and scheduled power shut down in cities will be reduced or stopped with the help of finding solar source for energy requirements.
The proposed plan for solar generation will be mandated to meet 30 pc of energy requirement in public buildings and corporation sub offices. Municipalities, street lights, local urban bodies and corporation buildings are mandated to use the solar power by the year 2022.
The solar energy consumption will heavily develop green zones of the state with the reduction of carbon and water foot print. The policy has a lifespan of five years with government exclusively monitoring the efficiency of such alternate sources of energy.
The new solar generation will be fed to the grid with an energy meter and then recording of the system is enabled for acquiring accurate readings. Individual buildings and bodies will collectively pay the bill where the bi-directional capacities of power generation solves the domestic and public requirements. Directorate of Town and Country Planning will join hands with other governmental and private bodies to mandate the solar energy usages with the scheme of Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC).
