Piped drinking water for 45,000 Chennai houses

A total of 45,000 including the two areas that were added to the corporation limits and five other on the fringes gets the water pipeline and sewage system. The two basic amenities of water supply and underground sewage connection are distributed on the basis of city development project. The above mentioned zones will get these facilities within a span of seven years said the Corporation.

All the locations coming under the corporation and fringes will have smart water meters and desalination plants apart from water pumping stations. According to the government schedule the individual housed will get the connection within 2025 in accordance with the proposed project.

With the newly sanctioned fund of 410 crore from Asian Development Bank, Chennai Corporation starts the work of metro water distribution to the areas included to the limits. Also the extended localities will get the same amenities as mentioned by the corporation before seven years. The projects have already been tendered out and will be completed by 2025 said the rural and municipal administration department principal secretary Harmander Singh.

The actual agreement was signed on Wednesday but the works have been correlated before two months with initial planning and organizing the sources. Metro water and the commissionerate of municipal administration and Tamil Nadu Urban Infrastructure Financial Services (TNUIFSL) will work together for the project acting as a funding agency. Officials are meeting the residents of the areas for inputs and suggestions.

People from the mentioned localities reported a big relief signal in the form of resolving long pending water scarcity problem. Similar projects are announced in the zoned of Avadi and Tambaram assuring the water supply surpassing the works to the contractors.

TNUIFSL comes forward to provide technical assistance in the development of the rural areas fighting the issues of flood and pollution. The implementation of such water development, underground sewage system and flood controlling remedies will add up to the urban livelihood and uniform distribution of basic amenities.
