Do not be anxious on the Red Alert - Tamil Nadu Weatherman

Posted on: 05/Oct/2018 2:27:13 PM
The news has poured in that the Indian Weather Bureau has issued a Red Alert warning to Tamil Nadu on 7th October. This is an only general warning. Unlike as it was done for Kerala, this Red Alert is not for a specific state.  So, the public need not get confused that the warning is exclusively for the state of Tamil Nadu.

So, the public need not believe any rumours regarding Red Alert. The Chennai Meteorological Centre has issued an administrative warning to the Tamil Nadu Disaster Management Commission. It has not issued any warning to any specific state.

It is presently not possible to state in a confirmed manner about the prospects of very heavy rains on 7th October. This is because there are only symptoms observed about the possibility of a depression zone being formed but it is not yet formed.

Only when the depression zone is really formed and when it intensifies, it is possible to confirm categorically about the prospects of rain.

Further, even if the depression zone intensifies into a cyclonic format, it may drift towards coastal Oman. So, it may not cause any harm to the coastal Tamil Nadu or Kerala. Only when it really forms, it is possible to forecast rains. At the same time, there would be widespread rains in Tamil Nadu.

In Chennai Metro, the rain may commence at midnight until the early morning and then up to the morning session. It may rain during the noon session in a few places.

When the depression zone forms and drifts, there are prospects of heavy rains for 1 day in the districts located in the Western Ghat Range of mountains.

Again, it is not possible now to estimate where exactly it will rain and what extent it would rain right now. However, things can be clarified after the next 2 days.

Please note that it is NOT possible to exactly predict as announced by the Indian Weather Bureau about the certainty of very heavy rains on 7th October! It may rain on 7th or may rain even earlier. Or even may get delayed. This will depend on the wind speed.

At the Ame. It does not really and that there would be a very very heavy rain exclusively in Tamil Nadu or Chennai. There are no prospects for this at present. So, please do not believe any rumours or get anxious!

We need water as an essential commodity for drinking and other purposes. So, We should rather welcome rain! The public should realize not all heavy rains will lead to flooding.

The present Red Alert given is only intended for the districts on the mountain range – not for Chennai! So, do not ever get anxious that heavy rain may return as it happened on 1st December 2015.
