Following the footsteps of Chennai, Tiruchi and Coimbatore, the Madurai International Airport in Tamil Nadu has got facilitated for e-visa.
Tourists are going to be largely benefited out of it, especially those who hail from Singapore, Sri Lanka, the UAE, Malaysia, US and the UK. This visa process does not involve any intermediary party or agents, and it is a completely online process. This initiative is a result of the launch of UDAN scheme by the Union Civil Aviation Ministry that links Chennai and Salem.
In March 2018, there were about 2.46 lakh tourists who got their e-visa whereas in March 2017, there were only 1.46 lakh e-visa recipients. This accounts to a growth by 68.8 percent. Between January and March this year, there were a total count of 7.62 lakh tourists who got the e-visa whereas during the same period last year, there were 4.67 lakh tourists. With this, the increase in tourists is 63 percent.
