Swami Vivekananda popularized the pride of Hinduism throughout the world and by possessing extreme knowledge and will power he had the qualities of leadership and charity, said the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalitthaa on Wednesday on the occasion of 150th birthday year-long celebrations of Swami Vivekananda began in Chennai.
The CM laid the foundation stone for a cultural trust founded by Sri Ramakrishna Mission and announced Rs.2 crore donation for the trust on behalf of the TN government.
The CM said that Vivekananda was a great patriot who exhorted youth to join him in his quest for national development. Swami Vivekananda strictly obeyed his teacher-guru Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa’s teachings of ‘helping serving people was divine’.
The Chief Minister recalled that Swami Vivekananda was a big inspiration for her, even before she plunged into politics and said that she had mentioned about this in an interview to a paper soon after she joined politics.
“On his footsteps, I have taken political renunciation to serve the people without any selfishness. I have nobody and the people of Tamil Nadu mean everything to me” said Jayalalithaa.
The Chief Minister distributed a special price to a differently-abled boy on the occasion.
