The news that solar power plants have been installed at the rooftops of the Alandur and St. Thomas Mount metro stations has been the subject of discussion for many now. It is brought out that CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited has commissioned solar power plants at these above mentioned metro stations and the total capacity of these solar power plants is 1120 KW.
Around 151,200 units of electricity would be generated by these solar power plants in a month of time. The superb piece of information is by these solar power plants it would be possible to save amount of Rs 6,94,9152 lakhs per year. This was confirmed by a release from CMRL. It is important to note that these solar power plants projects were executed under zero capital investment by CMRL and were based on RESCO model under Solar Energy Corporation of India or SECI. Some time back solar power plants were installed at the popular Koyambedu metro station and depot. One important point is the installed capacity of CMRL’s rooftop solar power is 3MW in total. It is now said that by the end of 2018 another 4.6MW rooftop solar power installation that is presently under progress is expected to be completed.
