Centella asiatica, known as Vallarai Keerai in Tamil, has several medicinal properties. It is rich in Iron, Calcium, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and minerals. It contains all the ingredients required for a healthy blood quality in the right proportions. Further, it also contains nutrients required for smart brain function.
Vallarai Keerai is an ideal cure/medicine for ulcerous mouth. Patients suffering fromulcerous mouth can take 3 or 5 leaves of this Vallarai Keerai raw and chewing the mornings and evenings, twice a day. Wonderful curing effect can be observed within a few days.
It also enhances memory power. It is also an idel cure for several complaints like throat-block, fever, and cold and also, body fatigue. It cures constipation and also clears the dimness in the eyes.
Complaints such as body-irritaton, pain in the joints (knees and arms), swelling, and passing yellow-coloured urine.
Chutney made of Vallarai Keerai can cure constipation. An important point to note is that amarind must not be added when making any dishes with this. Adding tamarind may spoil the original flavor and also neutralize its medicinal curing properties.
Apart from curing constipation, Vallarai Keerai also cures the ulcerous condition of the liver and the stomach. Dry a bunch of Vallarai Keerai leaves under the sunshade and powder. Mix a spoonful in a cup of milk and drink before going to bed in the night. This will kill the worms in th digestion system. It is also used to cure the diarrhoea condition of children.
It is recommended to prepare a ‘sambar’ by using the additional ingredients of onion, pepper, and cumin along with Vallarai Keerai. Or else, fry some quantity of black gram and add toasted Vallarai Keerai, coconut, and salt and make a ‘thuvaiyal’ or chutney. Or else combine Vallarai Keerai with greengram and make a gravy.
