Passengers can travel faster in the most important stretch of Tamil Nadu, Chennai to Madurai with return, with the introduction of new TEJAS Express. Like Shatabdi express train the stretch between Chennai and Madurai travel time is very much reduced with the 70 Kmph speed. The new Tejas express will operate five days per week along with latest facilities such as infotainment, Wi-Fi, CCTV monitoring, automatic closing doors and USB charging ports.
Tejas express will start its journey by 6 am from Chennai and will reach Madurai around 1 pm while the return train reaches Chennai by around 9 pm informed the sources of Southern Railways. The long time planning of the railway body is to introduce an express day time train between the two important cities. Tejas Express two rakes was planned and built in Integral Coach Factory, all set to go for the express speed travel.
Vaigai express takes 8 hours of journey time between the two cities while Pandian express takes 9 long hours. Now the travel time between Chennai and Madurai will be around 7 hours which will positively impact the passengers travelling frequently between the lines.
The exact details of the ticket fare is not announced by southern railways and many speculations confirms that the rate will be 20 percent higher than Shatabdi express.
Sources confirmed the train operations within a week and also special security features are employed in this train to reduce vandalisation.
