This is the month of December and soon Christmas and New Year would be coming. It is known that during Christmas and New Year many people visit other places or their hometowns etc. These people use flights to travel to their places of destination. The superb piece of news is for those people who want to go to their hometowns or to other tourist places there would be more flights available from Chennai city now. The airlines have applied for adding flights to the existing routes and to start new services from the Chennai airport for the winter schedule. From October to March, the schedule has been put out and more frequencies of flights were planned in the months of December, January and February.

It is now brought out that low cost carriers have added their frequencies and they have also applied for new routes like Kannur and Nagpur from the Chennai city. Many people go to places like Ahmedabad, Pune, Goa and other important cities during their holidays. To help these people there would be more flights to these above mentioned places in India as the demand from the passengers is more. Every season flights are added and removed is known. In the winter schedule, 6 major airlines together have 613 flights from Chennai. Popular airlines company IndiGO as got as many as 332 flights and this is followed by another popular airline SpiceJet with 109 flights. Jet Airways have got 92 flights and Air India has 40 flights, Go Air has 22 flights and Vistara has got 18 flights. This was as per DGCA numbers. One important point is the number of flights which the airlines intended to fly from Chennai city would be lower than the number of flights from other metropolitan cities.

It must be taken into account that IndiGo has got 539 flights approved for Bengaluru and jet Airways would fly 144 flights from Bengaluru but just 92 flights from Chennai city. The number of flights had only increased marginally if daily average was taken and this was as per a senior official belonging to AAI or Airport Authority of India. As a part of winter schedule, Indigo and SpiceJet have begun to add frequencies and there is not much difference between summer and winter schedules. The entire set of new flights has not been started by the airlines and the frequency addition was also not carried out. It is known that these two are important and the airlines have applied for these.

As per an official belonging to Spice Jet, it is clear that as of now there is not much change in the schedule and as many as 39 flights would be operated for the season. The travelling culture of a city would be brought out by the number of flights in the winter schedule. This was as per D. Sudhakar Reddy who is the national president for Air Passengers Association of India.

He later spoke his heart out about the travelling culture of the people belonging to Hyderabad and Bengaluru. He explained that people in these cities have more travelling culture and they were willing to spend more money than the Chennai people. It is due to these factors airlines might have got more routes from Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Mr. Sharat Dhali, chief operating officer of B2C of Yatra.com, then spoke about how the people of Chennai are adventure seekers, offbeat and leisure travellers. He threw light on the people who travelled with their families and visited destinations for recreational activities. He finally spspoke about how around the time of Christmas and New Year the people of Chennai visit offbeat places like Gokarna, Varkala and Lakshadweep etc.
