Increased intake of students for the medical courses from the next academic year

Many students desire to study medicine after completing their plus two but only few become successful. This causes huge disappointment for both students and their parents. The good news for the aspiring students and parents is from the next academic year the state government would add more seats to the undergraduate as well as postgraduate medical courses.

As per the vice-chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR medical University, S. Geethalakshmi, soon as many as 60 seats in various specialities across MD/MS course would be added. In addition to this atleast 2 new self financing medical colleges with an intake of 150 students each could also be there from the next academic year.

On Wednesday, 12th December 2018, Ayush Wellness Centre was inaugurated and in the inauguration function the vice-chancellor of Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Ms. Geethalakshmi was cynosure of many eyes. She revealed that Kovai Medical Centre and Panimalar group of institutions have applied for setting up of medical colleges. The information gathered was Kovai Medical Centre’s application had gone to the governing body of the Medical Council for approval and the university was in the process of completing the formalities for the Panimalar group of institutions before sending the applications for approval to the council. Ms. Geethalakshmi spoke about how a letter of consent for affiliation would be given. An inspection team would be sent finally once Medical Council gives permission. One sensational piece of news is the percentage of students who have passed has increased in this year from the 93 % in the first year to 95% now. This was confirmed by Ms. Geethalakshmi.

It is worthy to note that health minister Mr. C. Vijayabaskar commissioned 5000 sq ft wellness centre and it was constructed at an amount of Rs 1.66 crores. In this wellness centre there are rooms for OPD treatment for yoga, Ayurveda, Naturopathy and Siddha system of medicine. An amount of Rs 20 lakh worth equipments is installed in the wellness centre. It is now said that this wellness centre would be highly beneficial to both the people as well as the medical students.
