Many women have breast cancer these days. Screening for the breast cancer is very important and for that KMC or Kilpauk Medical College would be doing its best now. The sensational piece of news that has emerged is in the month of January 2019 an exclusive breast clinic would be opened at KMC for screening and treatment of breast cancer. Senior oncologists and team of technicians would be playing important roles in this breast cancer clinic at KMC. Many small lesions go undetected and later create huge issues for the women. The information gathered was the breast cancer clinic would launch breast cancer screening facility using advanced form of digital X-ray mammogram and this could detect even the smallest lesions that appear cancerous.

The amazing piece of information is this would be India’s first-of-kind and it has got 3 advanced forms of screening techniques like tomo-synthesis, contrast mammography and stereo biopsy. From January 2019, the installed machinery would be opened for the public at the breast clinic at KMC Chennai.

As per Dr. Devi Meenal who is the head of the radiology department, KMC, to create 3-D image of the breasts, tomo synthesis or 3-D mammography uses a low dose x-ray system and computer reconstructions. She later assured that the imaging could be efficient and clear in diagnosing the cancer cells and this is due to the process using volume based mammography.

She threw light on the contrast enhanced spectral mammography and spoke about how this is one of the latest developments in the detection of breast cancer in the women. In this iodinated contrast is injected similar to MRI and CT scans. She then added that along with contrast mammography the contrast agents improve diagnostic accuracy in the women. It is worth noting that another component of machinery which is advanced ultrasonic set up would provide elastography. To know whether the tissue is hard or soft, elastography would be useful and finally malignant and benign tumours could be differentiated.

The important information is from January 2019 diagnostic, clinical and surgical care would be provided by the group of oncologists at this breast clinic at KMC, Chennai.
