In order to encourage the learning system through the English language, the LKG and UKG classes are set to be introduced in all the government schools from 21st January.
English and Hindi are accorded priority status as a learning medium in several states. In Tamil Nadu, there are only a few government schools offering English medium learning.
Hence, most of the parents admit their kids in LKG and UKG classes in private schools with the provision to learn in English medium.
In this situation, with the important objectives of increasing the number of students in government schools and to encourage learning through English medium, the LKG and UKG classes are being introduced in all government schools.
These classes have already been introduced in some of the model government schools. Subsequently, activities have been initiated to introduce LKG & UKG classes in all other government primary schools.
Thus, LKG and UKG classes are set to be introduced in 2000 anganwadis throughout the state of Tamil Nadu which are located near primary schools. 59000 students can learn in these schools.
The female teachers presently working in government primary schools will visit the anganwadis and take 2-hours classes for LKG/UKG students admitted in anganwadis. This plan will commence on 21st January.
