In many parts of Tamil Nadu and in south India cold conditions are creating huge difficulties for the people now. The sensational piece of news is the cold conditions would frizzle out by the end of this week. This was confirmed by none other than Mr. K.J. Ramesh who is the director general of meteorology. He expressed his views on the cold temperature and said the temperatures in the plains would improve and the hill stations would remain cooler for some more period of time.
According to the meteorological department is clear that significant weather has been caused by active weather disturbance or WD. This had resulted in the widespread snowfall over the western Himalayan region and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over the plains belonging to northwest India from 4th to 6th of January 2019. There are few more active WDs and it has been responsible for normal to above normal rainfall or snowfall over the western Himalayan region in the first 2 weeks.
The rainfall activity over south Peninsula, Lakshadweep and Nicobar islands is below normal due to the easterly wave activity being subdued. The point is from 10th January fresh western disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region and adjoining plains of northwest India. It is now revealed that this WD would not be as strong as the earlier ones.
On 2nd of January 2019 this trend began and Valparai recorded the lowest minimum temperature in TN at 4.5 degree Celsius. It must be noted that Udhagamandalam recorded a temperature of 6.2 degree temperature, Coonoor and Kodaikanal recorded 9 degree Celsius.
Places like Vellore, Thiruttani, Salem, Namakkal, Madurai, Karur and Dharmapuri recorded minimum temperature below 20 degree Celsius. The important news gathered is Nungambakkam in Chennai city recorded a temperature of 20.6 degree Celsius and Meenambakkam in Chennai recorded 20 degree Celsius and that is below the normal.
