Due to the occasion of the Republic Day, the permission to the visitors to the Chennai Airport stands cancelled.
The Republic Day is scheduled to be celebrated throughout the country in a grand manner on 26th January.
The Central Government Department of Intelligence had warned that extremists and terrorists are plotting to disturb the celebration of the Republic Day by indulging in sabotage. Hence, the Department has warned that the entire country must be alert and vigilant on this accord and all the states must take all necessary precautionary activities.
Subsequently, DGP T. K. Rajendran had ordered that all the district police authorities should take all required precautionary actions. Accordingly, a 3-layered Police security arrangement has been set up in all important Railway Stations including Chennai Central and Egmore Railway Stations.
Police have been deployed in all public activity-related locations such as bus stations/termini, temples and other religious places, beach, cinema theatres, parks, and commercial complexes.
In this scenario, from the midnight yesterday (20th January) to the midnight on 31st January, the permission to allow visitors remains cancelled. Further, the airport has been brought under the ‘heavy-security’ protection and a 7-layered security arrangement has been set up.
The flight passengers are allowed to board their flights only after extensive checking is completed. The Airport Officials have requested utmost public cooperation with the passengers having to reach airport earlier as the security procedure has been intensified.
