TRAI (Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of India) has categorically declared that the deadline to choose preferred cable TV channels on the basis of monthly charges will not be extended after 1st February.
TRAI had recently announced that the charges for the preferred channels will be separately counted and has to be paid accordingly. Further, the customers should hand over the preferred list before 31st January.
The earlier TRAI announcement was that at the monthly charges of Rs. 153, 100 free channels will be allowed. Out of this, 25 channels are from DD (Doordarshan) Out of the remaining, 50 channels are free, This will be given as per the region and the language. The last 25 channels will be on a chargeable basis. However, thee may be changed citing the free channels selected.
At the same time, if an HDTV channel is selected, it would be equivalent to 2 free channels. The monthly charge of Rs. 153 includes GST as well. The customers interested in choosing and watching more channels can check the charges from the price list given.
It is also gathered that there are no changes whatever for those using Tata Sky. It has also been stressed that no additional charges can be collected by the Cable TV providers apart from the fixed rates
Meanwhile, it is gathered that various agencies had requested TRAI to extend the deadline of 1st February and permission to continue with the present system. However, TRAI has replied categorically there is no chance for the same and the deadline of 1st February will remain.TRAI has further ordered that all the DTH and cable TV service providers should arrange to cater to the customers as per their own preferred channels chosen.
