An indefinite strike has been undertaken from 22nd January on behalf of JACTO-GEO (Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers` Organisations and Government Employees` Organisations) by all the government employees and teachers stressing their 9-point demands such as cancellation of the new pension schemes, etc.
As 1.4 Lakhs teachers have also participated in this ongoing strike, all education-related and academic activities have been greatly disturbed. In this situation, the higher secondary schools teachers have announced that they will also join this strike from 28th January.
With this, a tense situation has been created as the public examinations are scheduled shortly thus affecting the study and preparation of the students due to teachers; participation in the above strike. In order to avoid this difficult situation, the state government of Tamil Nadu had ordered to appoint temporary teachers at a monthly salary of Rs. 7000 through the Parent-Teachers Association. However, teachers with TET (Teachers Eligibility Test) have not shown much interest/enthusiasm on this. So, the state government has now decided to increase the monthly salary of the temporary teacher from Rs. 7000 to Rs. 10000.
In a notification released by the Secretary of the state government department of school education, it is mentioned:
‘The monthly salary being paid to the temporary teachers (appointed on a monthly basis) has been increased to Rs. 10000. All the schools have now to expedite the appointment of at least one temporary teacher per school from 28th January in order the schools function normally a usual with classes in progress.’
