The news that from any of the 32 metro stations operating across 2 corridors of metro rail phase-1 in the Chennai, a commuter would be able to board share autos and share taxis from the month of April, has been the subject of discussion for many now. A vehicle stand would be making its presence felt at all the metro stations in Chennai and an order has been issued by CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited. It must be noted that each vehicle stand would have atleast 5 share autos and share taxis and these would play an important role in providing the commuters with feeder services for the last mile connectivity.
An official belonging to CMRL shared his thoughts and spoke about how in another 2 months of time there would be share autos and sedan type cars in all the metro stations in Chennai. He then added that based on the feedback got from the passengers, other feeder services operated by them in few stations would be extended to more stations.
It must not be forgotten that in the month of August in 2018 share autos and share taxi service were launched and they are operated on trial basis at 13 metro stations in Chennai city. The point is in 6 months of time nearly 1.7lakh commuters utilized these feeder services that operate inside 5km radius.
At Guindy, Alandur, Vadapalani and Anna Nagar Tower, e-scooter rental service named ‘Vogo’ was introduced on Monday, 18th February 2019 is known. It is now said that the commuters could have to download scooter rental app and book their rides after attaching their driving licenses. To access the key box in the scooter, the commuters would get one-time password. The important information gathered is once the ride is over then the commuter could drop off their scooters in any pick up or drop points.
It is revealed that efforts are taken to extend other services like rental bicycles, vans and self driving cars to all the metro stations. It is well known that these bicycles, vans and cars are operated at selected metro stations to provide last mile connectivity for the commuters.
