Taking breakfast is very important as it would provide energy to do the work efficiently. There are some students who do not take breakfast due to various reasons. The superb piece of news that has come out now is the students who are studying in the corporation schools would be provided free breakfast every day before the classes begins.
This would be under ‘Kaalai Unavu Thittam’ scheme rolled out by GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation and Akshaya Patra Foundation. The scheme has been planned to cover 5000 students in the initial phase from across 23 corporation based schools. It was later confirmed by the corporation officials belonging to the school education department.
It must be noted that on Monday, 25th February 2019, governor of TN, Mr. Banwarilal Purohit, state minister for fisheries, Mr. D. Jayakumar launched the free breakfast scheme for as many as 1000 students studying in Chennai primary school and Chennai higher secondary school in Thiruvanmiyur Kuppam. As per a representative belonging to Akshaya Patra Foundation, either upma, idli or pongal would be given to the students as breakfast.
It was pointed out that by the end of next month as many as 5000 students would be covered in this free breakfast scheme. There are around 20,000 students studying in many corporation run schools. The point is within the next academic year these 20,000 students would also be benefited by this superb scheme. It is worth mentioning that Akshaya Patra Foundation would cook and deliver the food at these schools at their own cost. The important point is before the classes starts, all students must be fed well and this was as per Sudama Vipra Dasa belonging to Akshaya Patra Foundation. In the future all the corporation school students would be brought under this scheme.
In the Chennai city there are as many as 281 corporation run schools present now. The information gathered is this idea of providing free breakfast to the students of corporation schools came from Mr. Rajagopal who is the additional chief secretary to the governor. The point is this idea was taken from the midday meal programme that was first started in the state of TN.
