Cycle sharing system launched by corporation of Chennai

Who would have thought that one day cycle sharing system would be making its presence felt in Chennai city? On Wednesday, the corporation of Chennai made sensational news when it launched the cycle sharing system.

This cycle sharing system was introduced in PPP or public private partnership mode and would be present in as many as 25 locations like Anna Nagar and along Marina Beach etc. It is said that those who use these cycles would be charged as per the time of usage of cycles. There are 15 zones across Chennai and the point is the civic body would be expanding this Smart Bike cycle sharing system to as many as 400 locations in these 15 zones in Chennai. An amount of Rs 5 would be charged for the first hour and Rs 9 for every additional half hour. The point to be noted is an amount of Rs 49 would be charged for one day pass.

In the initial stages, the cycle sharing system would cover6 locations along the Marina Beach like Anna Square bus stop and Labour statue. The information gathered is in Anna Nagar this cycle sharing system has been introduced in the locations like Ana Nagar Tower Metro Station, Kandaswamy College, TNHB flats, Valliammal School, Anna Nagar West bus depot and Shenoy Nagar Metro Station.

An official expressed his views on this cycle sharing system. He spoke about how the cycle sharing system has been launched in the Chennai city with 250 cycles across 25 stations in Anna Nagar and Marina Beach etc. He then hinted that this cycle sharing system was initiated under the government of India’s Smart City Mission. Pollution has been on the rise and to reduce this pollution cycling had to be promoted aggressively. This was as per Mr. D.V. Manohar who is the chairman of Smart Bike Mobility. It was pointed out by Mr. Dharmin Dontamsetti, MD of Smart Bike Mobility, that by bridging the gap that was created by other means of transport, cycle sharing system would be tremendous and effective. It is revealed that this cycle sharing system would provide Chennai residents with cheap and healthy mobility alternatives.
